PHPC’s 30 For 30: Be Hands-On With the Duluth Co-Op in June

PHPC30For30Logo

Let’s spend the month of June (ahem…30 days) doing mission work for the Hands of Christ Duluth Co-Op!!!!

In October 1992, Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church and nine other churches in the Duluth area created the Co-Op to address the needs of the working poor in the community. The Co-Op’s mission is to

logoutilize the resources of the community as a Christian Cooperative  to glorify God and demonstrate Christ’s love by  ministering to the material and spiritual needs of those in crisis.

Since the 1990s, PHPC has donated canned food and non-perishable items, Christmas gifts, monetary funds to the Co-Op and volunteered to sort food donations and do spring-cleaning at its warehouse within Proctor Square Apartments (3395 Fox St. Building 101).

For several years now, the church has volunteered at the Co-Op during the month of June-providing 2 or 3 people to serve every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10-12 pm or 2 pm (depending on the need). The work consists of unpacking and stocking donations as well as preparing packages for the Co-Op clients.

Duluth Co-OpIt’s a great way to serve people in need and build relationships with others! To volunteer, sign up here! If you have questions, contact Angie O’Farrell, chair of the Mission & Outreach Committee, angie@ofarrellgroup.com.

But…that’s not the only way you can support this ministry!

We also invite every church member to bring canned goods and non-perishables (peanut butter, cereal, pasta, and rice) every Sunday in June (7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th)! You can drop them off in collection bins located outside the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall.

And last, but not least, the PHPC Elementary school kids (ages 3-10) are invited to bring 1 canned good item to every worship service in June, and place the items near the communion table as they come up for the Children’s Sermon!!!!
